The delegation which visited the Law Council Secretariat in Canberra, was led by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Law and Institutional Reform), Mr M. Kulasegaran and comprised of members of the Malaysian Parliament, the President of the Malaysian Bar Council, Mr Mohamad Ezri, as well as senior officials from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department.
President-elect Warner provided an overview of the Law Council’s work and the separation of powers in Australia, noting the distinct functions of the Commonwealth Attorney-General, the Solicitor-General and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP). Discussion focused on the independent role of the CDPP and the importance of transparency in Ministerial decision making.
