Cyber Security Legislative Package 2024
The Law Council endorses efforts to enhance cybersecurity measures to safeguard both individuals and businesses that may be vulnerable to cyber threats. We do, however, continue to emphasise that, while there is a need for an overarching framework for cyber security regulation, any regulatory framework must be appropriately balanced so as not to unduly discourage innovation, and investment in innovation, in Australia.
While the Law Council provides in-principle support for measures contained in the 2024 Cyber Security Legislative Package, we have raised concerns with specific aspects of the Cyber Security Bill 2024, particularly as it relates to legal professional privilege and with regard to matters of scope and proportionality.
